DERMAL FILLER
What are dermal fillers?
Dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a natural substance found in the body; it depletes as we age. Hyaluronic acid molecules can hold 1000 times their own weight in water.
As we age and the hyaluronic acid in the skin decreases, along with the production of collagen and elastin (these are the components of the skin, that provide the scaffolding and volume). The skin starts to thin, look dehydrated, fine lines and wrinkles start and volume in the skin is lost. As we age, our bone density changes, as does the distribution of natural fat on the face. Dermal fillers are injected into the skin to replace lost volume, smooth the skin by plumping and filling lines and wrinkles, adding definition to the face by replacing structure that may have been lost due to aging, changes in bone density or fat pad distribution.
Dermal fillers have a vast range of uses for the face.
They can be used:
To balance the facial proportions
Balance the facial profile
Reduce lines and wrinkles in the peri-oral area (around the mouth) these are often referred to as smoker's lines, marionette lines (mouth to chin) and nasolabial folds (nose to mouth).
Add volume, shape or definition to the lips
Change or enhance the shape of the nose (this can be an alternative to invasive nose surgery)
Lift or contour the cheeks
Create definition in the jawline or chin
Smooth out deep lines or scars on the face
Replace volume loss under the eye area and reduce the appearance of dark circles- Tear Trough filler
Add back in the structure that is lost from the face as we age
There are over 80 brands of dermal filler on the UK market, safe and licensed for use in the UK. The type of dermal filler chosen for the client, is based on the individual client needs and the area of the face being treated.
Dermal fillers are broken down naturally in the body in around 6-18 months, depending on the type of dermal filler used and the area treated. A topical numbing cream can be used to make the treatment more comfortable and many dermal filler brands contain lidocaine, a numbing agent that wears off after a few hours, making the treatment more comfortable. Filler can be dissolved using an injectable product called Hyaluronidase, should the client need or want the dermal filler out of their system sooner than waiting for the body to naturally break it down.
The ethos at Sinéad Laura Aesthetics is that dermal fillers should be used to enhance a client’s natural features, giving subtle and natural results.

LIP FILLER
Soft and Natural
Lip fillers are an extremely popular treatment. Lip fillers are used to add soft and natural volume to the lips, giving them subtle definition. Lip filler can be used to hydrate the lip area, giving the lips a youthful appearance. Lip filler can balance the size of the upper and lower lip and balance the overall shape of the lips and give the lips definition. Small amounts of lip filler can be used to define the cupids bow and vermillion border of the lips. Creating fuller lips is a process, high volumes of filler are unable to be administered in one appointment. So, depending on the desired effect, more than one session of lip filler may be required. This allows the lip tissue to settle and heal before adding more filler and reduces the risk of filler migrating. Lip filler enhancement is popular with all age groups, for those who have lost volume as they have aged or would just like a fuller pair of lips. Lip filler can also help in some circumstances, reduce the appearance of 'smoker's lines' over the top lip.
Procedure time: 60 minutes
Duration of results: 6-12 months
Treatment recovery: Little to no downtime, swelling and bruising is expected
Anaesthetic: Yes, topical numbing cream
Risks & complications: Low to medium
Best results: 1 appointment (lips needing more filler may require 2 appointments)

DERMAL FILLER DISSOLVING
Start Afresh
Hyaluronidase is an enzyme that can be injected to dissolve dermal filler. This can be undertaken when the dermal filler is no longer wanted by the client, or due to complications that may have occurred, adverse reactions such as lumps and bumps or if there has been too much dermal filler injected into an area. Hyaluronidase works by breaking up the bonds that hold the hyaluronic acid molecules together, by a process called hydrolysis.
Hyaluronidase, once injected, works very quickly and breaks down dermal filler, immediately after being injected.
After filler has been dissolved, the area can be reinjected with filler again, after a period of 2 weeks, this allows the tissues to heal and settle. Clients chose dissolving as an option if they want to start their dermal filler journey again, with a 'blank canvas'.
Procedure time: 60 minutes
Duration of results: Permanent once dissolved
Treatment recovery: Little to none, but area cannot be refilled for 2 weeks
Best results: Usually 1 session
Risks & complications: Low
